SBIRC The SBIR Consortium

Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Consortium’s purpose is to advocate for innovative entrepreneurs in Louisiana, helping them start and grow through policy changes, access to capital, business incentives, business to business networking, and procurement opportunities.

The SBIR program encourages domestic small businesses to engage in Federal Research and Development that has the potential for commercialization. Through a competitive awards-based program, SBIR enables small businesses to explore their technological potential and provides the incentive to profit from its commercialization. The program invests over $2 billion annually in small businesses.

SBIRC is a 501(C) member-driven organization launched in 2018, following the successful legislative efforts in 2017 to improve Louisiana’s R&D Tax Credit program. Today, SBIR/STTR participants enjoy a 30% transferable credit, which allows them to monetize the federal agency awards. This provides greater cashflow for seed funding and growth. SBIRC long-term goal is to raise the level of Louisiana participation in order to diversify and strengthen the state economy.
